1st September 1939: Adolf Hitler invaded Poland. The invasion of Poland by Germany marked the start of World War II. Hitler used his famous "blitzkrieg" strategy of intense aerial bombing of cities and towns, and using overwhelming numbers of tanks, artillery and ground troops in order to achieve a quick victory.
7th September 1822: Brazil, the largest country by surface area in South America, gained its independence from Portugal. But the South American country still has Portuguese as their official and national language. In 1967, Brazil was given its official name, the Federative Republic of Brazil.
11th September 1841: A patent for a collapsible paint tube was granted to John Rand (27 January 1801 - 23 January 1873) who was an American inventor and painter. Rand had been working to create a metallic tube that would store oil paint without drying out. This invention was later used for many items, including toothpaste, human and pet food, and gels, pharmaceuticals and chemical packaging.
17th September 1787: September 17 marks the US Constitution/ Citizenship Day. On that date in 1787 the United States Constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The new Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, which up to then was the governing document of the 13 original states of the country now known as the United States of America.
21st September 1949: Mao Zedong, at the September 1949 conference in Peking, announced the intention to form a new Chinese government that would be under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. 22nd September 1828: Shaka kaSenzangakhona, famously known as Shaka Zulu, was murdered by his two half-brothers, Mhlangana and Dingane. This happened in Dukuza, a city in KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa. Shaka was the founder and king of the Zulu Kingdom from 1816 to 1828, and he gained popularity from his successful military reforms and innovations that included the use of the assegai, a short Zulu thrusting spear.
